The research challenges are to develop terrestrial and non-terrestrial mobile networks for extended coverage, bounded latency, and energy efficient RANs and RAN resource management schemes, as well as the orchestration of distributed workloads and services across mobile networks. We will design novel architectures for the management of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, optimize algorithms for energy aware RAN resource management, and slicing and scheduling AI algorithms for efficient RAN operation. We will implement in-network processing pipelines at base stations, edge clouds, and satellites to host signal processing, inference, and compression algorithms. Intra-axisexpertise integrates non-terrestrial and satellite networks (e.g., Karabulut-Kurt, Naboulsi), AI network optimization (e.g., Hassan), spectrum resource management and allocation (e.g., Kaddoum), and RAN network architectures (e.g., Coutinho).

The work will use a purpose built mobile network simulator and software infrastructure at Concordia.
